The farm to school movement is a powerful force for meaningful food systems change across Hawai‘i, impacting public health, family-farm viability, community vitality, and more. Three panel discussion at the Hawai‘i Farm to School Conference will examine the supply, distribution, and procurement of locally grown foods for Hawai‘i’s schools, along with successful models for implementation through education.

Keynote speaker Kacie O’Brien is the Farm to School Program Western Regional Lead for the USDA Food and Nutrition Service and will provide federal-level guidance and support for strengthening Hawai‘i’s farm to school efforts.

Registration is $50 per person and includes breakfast, lunch, refreshments and conference materials. Featuring an ʻono and pono breakfast provided by Slow Food of Hawai‘i and many of O‘ahu’s local farmers and chefs, and a locally sourced model school lunch from Hale Kealoha ‘Ai Pono.

Presented by the Hawai‘i Farm to School and School Garden Hui and The Kohala Center, this important gathering of food systems stakeholders will promote the knowledge and best practices needed to develop and sustain a statewide farm to school program to re-grow Hawai‘i’s agricultural economy, future farmers, and healthy schools and communities.

Scholarships
Educators and students may apply for scholarships of up to $200 per person (total of up to $1,000 per school) from the Kōkua Hawai‘i Foundation for reimbursement of conference registration fees and/or neighbor island flights and rental cars as needed. Download the application at kokuahawaiifoundation.org/minigrants. Scholarship application deadline for educators and students is September 15.

A limited number of conference registration scholarships of $50 each are available to non-educators. Email Donna Mitts at dmitts@kohalacenter.org to request an application and/or with questions. Scholarship application deadline for non-educators is September 15.

Accommodations
For those traveling to O‘ahu, a limited number of accommodations are available upon request at the Kamehameha Schools Kapālama Campus on Thursday, October 2 (recommended) and/or Friday, October 3. Please indicate during registration if you are in need of accommodations and for which nights; someone will contact you with further details. Deadline for requesting accommodations is September 15.
