UH West Oahu Legislative Internship Program

I am delighted to be hosting a UHWO Legislative Intern, Tori McCann, this session.  I recently met with Tori and a few of her mentors from UHWO.  L-R: Ken Inouye, Sen. Shimabukuro, Tori McCann, and Dwight Takamine.

Subject: Thank you for taking the time to meet with us

Aloha Senator Shimabukuro,

I would like to thank you again for taking the time to meet with us the other day. I fully understand that a lawmaker’s schedule is incredibly busy, so I am very appreciative that you were so generous with your time. Perhaps more importantly, I’m also thrilled that you have taken Tori McCann as an intern. Mahalo for your support of our internship program!

I also wanted to get you the information you requested about the internship program. This is the link to the webpage I mentioned that we used to inform UH West Oahu students about the internship (http://www.uhwocareers.com/hawaii-state-legislative-internship.html). I should mention that since the interns have already started working at the Capitol, this page is not technically “live” (i.e., students are not able to submit an application for the internship). However, it should provide some background on the program and how we configured it for this year. It may be worth noting that we are planning on doing this internship again next year, and we hope to make it even better by taking the lessons we’ve learned during the roll out of this program and applying them next year.

Having said that, if you have any suggestions, concerns, or other comments about the UH West Oahu Legislative Internship Program, please let me know. While we worked hard to make this the best program possible, we fully realize that we will undoubtedly learn some lessons along the way that will help us make improvements next year. Hence, your insight is essential to helping us constantly improve our programs.

Again, thank you for your time and thank you for your support.
